Well we used to create a topic to discuss each new episode, but since that eventually died out because people stopped making it, i had this idea to create just one topic to discuss the latest anime episode. I know there are some topics talking about season 5 already, but that's more for season information than the anime itself. So i wouldn't like to mix.

It goes without saying that this topic contains spoilers.

First impressions: I actually quite liked the first episode, although it was just an introduction to the new world, i'm looking forward to see what's coming next. But damn, they really skipped a lot of stuff, even if they had to split it into two episodes it wouldn't hurt to show us at least the boss card skills >.<

This probably would be better merged with the Season 5 thread but this place acts as an episode archive and overall discussion of G so it'll pass. Also, I don't feel the need for us to really use spoiler tags when this is a place to discuss the new episodes in the first place. So feel free to just disregard the use of them. The thread title itself is pretty much telling people to be ready for spoilers, it'd be their own fault for peaking if they didn't want to be spoiled.

Moving on, I liked and disliked this episode. It did something I liked which is the same as what Monty did as RWBY Volume 2 released its first episode: the animation has become godlike. Choosing your field background on the table is the future itself. They have decided to throw literally over half of their budget at the animation and hot damn is it paying off. For the writing itself however, I'm disappointed. Especially for the person who wrote some of Season 1's best episodes. The new kids feel very random, especially Chrono, and he's the main protagonist.

Chrono's whole character seems blank but with hidden dreams. The homework or essay assignment his class was given was about future dreams and Chrono wrote independence. ... Yet, he didn't seem to be paying attention. He is very much like Naoki but he lacks the puppy aura. For an introductory episode, they sure did a good job at showing us little to nothing about the guy we're going to be rooting for throughout this new generation.

The fight itself was beautiful and horrendous. Again, the animation is amazing. In addition to that they decided on doing something I was hoping for since season 2: they made the fights look genuine. It was more than just chess pieces that stayed in place or launched one strike during the battle phase. Chrono Jet Dragon comboed Mecha Battler Viktor, Mystery Flare Dragon fired an enormous blast followed by another one after. Hell, Kamui scared Chrono by almost breaking the first turn no attack rule just to get him in the feel of the image. However, all of this was much better suited as a two parter. The "tutorial" of every season wasn't given at all. It makes no sense how Chrono was doing well when Kamui wasn't actually telling him how to play. They're skipping over portions of the fight again and this is how the show began to deteriorate.

I don't care much for what they've done with Stride so far either. They keep screaming "GENERASHUNNNNNNNNN" and it's irritating me. We got it guys, this is Cardfight GX, a new generation. You don't need to shove the same word down our throat, certainly not for the action of striding. The commands for the G-Zone are very poor. "Generation: Release" I think and "Stride Generation" feel very stupid and just forcing the word generation as I stated. Stride itself looks very pretty and the act of performing the "Interdimensional Crosstalk" in lore presents a godly summoning sequence. It was only ruined by the dialogue.

I would have appreciated two episodes for this fight to get to know Chrono a little better to understand his sudden flare to win. I'd even like to know what Kamui has been up to and talking about how long the fight was before to get him to where he is today. It wouldn't have killed to give Shion more of a single line either.

Overall, this was a very poor introduction. It shows the ride(HA) we're gearing(HAHA) up for by giving us a gorgeous presentation of how fights will be played out. But it didn't show much promise for better writing. I still have hope for the rest of this series; this is still only episode 1. I just can't shake that it crushed me a little at how lacking it was in important departments. I do like that Gear Chronicle does embody a true "mysterious arrival" alien feeling. I'm excited to see how they fit in the demonic nation of Dark Zone with their time control abilities.

The new managers are more important than sweets. I mean look at their demanding poses, those death gazes of cuteness, the manager-like stature, and their potential for big business!?!?!
They are running that store so successfully and it has a more futuristic look than their parent's store, card capital!?!?!?!
So spacious! The new innovative cardfight tables! The giant card display boards! Those convenient trial decks on the counter! Hiring a famous passionate cardfighter to sell their products!
That entire business was accomplished in the three year time gap!
Can we not be in awe of cinnamon rolls and be in awe of those corporate geniuses!

@Fang Ofc the manager's family rules everything now.

@Cherry Yes introduction-wise it sucked, but since we already know the rules i didn't mind it that much(except for the card skills) Im just happy to see the new animation(Those ride effects *-*) and the design overall weren't dissapointing. As far as character development goes they can take their time, as you said chrono seems to have stuff hidden but there's no need to rush in.

Just some spoiler free thoughts.
A) Chrono's voice didn't annoy me 'as' much as I thought it would, sure it gets... cracked here and there, but thankfully that's short.
B) Love the opening sequences.
C) Everything's so futuristic!... and kinda reminds me a bit 'too' much of Gundam Build Fighters....hmmmmm!
D) They skipped over some basics that they taught in the first episode of other 'starter' seasons. Maybe a little 'too' rushed.
E) Did anyone else notice that his 'swirl' didn't move in the wind like the rest of his hair? I swear it's made out of plastic or something!
F) I was kind of hoping they'd make mention of it somewhere that it had been three years later, yet, nadda.

1) He...won his first game? What? I seriously hope they don't give him some crappy ass 90-ish percent win ratio like they do with most of the YGO MC's >:/
2) So.. this clan comes out of no where, with no word from anyone, officially or not. But it's official. And...I'm guessing, like AQ, it'll get supported 'mysteriously' by some booster releases that are only given to that person(s)? Plot Hole called, said it hopes you don't mind getting randomly dropped support now and again!
3) I like how we get to see all the characters throughout the anime, though I'm still worried about the girl, I swear if she ends up a cheerleader, I'm am SO done with this anime.

allot of people watched the episode thinking this is gonna be some great leap in the anime making the the best thing since slice bread.
to my people, this is a cardgame anime.
infact one of the things i hoped it would be is more first halve and season 1 and 3 like, no supernatural power or speaking creatures from another universe.

overall the first ep is good and focused where it needed to focus first, unlike the first ep of season 2,3,4. i love the new animation and creative way's the units act during fights, not just stand there and grunt or laugh a few words. you pay close enough attention you will notice allot of new little things in the show.

as for characters it is a letdown we didnt get to know any of them that well, but atleast we know kamui is the same guy only taller and with a yugi-like hairdo. has anyone else notice how similair shion is to fate series' saber.

all in all in normal vanguard anime standards it broke the mole, showing that the show wants to be more then just a cardgame anime show making there game a little more entertaining, or this could be just a first episode thing. but end result we will have to wait and see whats more to come.

I liked the episode, but the fight sequences felt more like generic anime fights (not that there's anything wrong with that, it was just a little too fast-paced for me, and I prefer the more traditional slow-paced sequences). But the animation was at least amazing for Vanguard's standards.

I don't know if I am the only one to notice or not but whenever a unit was called they were surrounded in sigils with the color of that unit's nation

We already know the colors of each Nation so I won't tell what is what however there is a extra detail to this:
Not only do we get their color but we also get the Sigil of that unit's clan kinda of like how a nation has a Flag and the smaller groups that make up the nation have their own Flags to split themselves up from one another.

Here are the three examples from three of the clan we have seen:

Gear Chronicle:  Purple Symbol with Two Gears in a Clockwork formation(You know where gears turn)

Nova Grappler: Gray Symbol with a Robot Fighter raising two arms up.

Kagero:  Red Symbol with the Head of a Dragon as the Sigil.

EPISODE 2!

My thoughts? Here goes, list format!

1. It's kinda cool that they explained what the hell those compact... squares were. They're called Ficas.
2. Quests? Isn't that just an overly complicated thing to do to make people fight one another? So no longer will you be allowed to enter into a tournament, you just have to show up and flash your Fica and either pass or not based on your current grade?
3. Ficas... are portable tables? WHAT? That.. is kinda lame, they're like duel disks... but lamer.
4. So.. Trinity Dragon, I first thought would be some bad ass team... but nope, it's comprised completely of ass hats that are supposed to apparently be Morikawa's replacement...but instead I found them to be even more horribly annoying. Seriously I wanted to give them all a good slap in the mouth.
5. Aaaaand the leader uses OTT... it's like having a cherished memory being corrupted in front of your eyes. An ass hat idiot is using the clan I first started playing vanguard with... I shall hold back my tears... my tears of rage! Seriously, I wouldn't mind it as much...if someone ELSE was using OTT, just anyone but those three.
6. And AGAIN with the rushed fights, what the hell? I tune in to watch the fights as well as the other stuff, this isn't some crappy reality tv series bushiroad, less real life situations and more fights, thanks.

"You said you were a part of Trinity Dragon... but you don't have any dragons".

Sad part is that was pretty much the highlight of the episode aside from the cutie who played Raizers.

So the first episode of G shows beautiful graphics, but then the second episode just sort of diminishes the awesome of the animation from the pilot. This episode was in all honesty terrible. They're trying to introduce a new Morikawa but he has two groupees like Kamui. Though they aren't real bullies, just annoying Ginyu-esque idiots. I got excited when I saw Tsunedo announced that his clan was Oracle Think Tank and even more when I saw Susano'o. ... But nothing happened. No skills explained, no drive checks, no damage checks, no actual Strides, and to top it all off, this episode was titled "Katsuragi Kamui" and he only played the Sempai role. He didn't actually do much of anything to deserve the episode naming.

Chrono-Kamui relationship is a nice change from the awful of Aichi-Kai. Kamui is acting like a real Vanguard role model for Chrono, which is great. All Kai did was act as the stoic badass, then the loner badass, then the disaster that was his season 4 persona toward Aichi. The most I can say is that the writing for the cast seems to be a lot more enjoyable than the previous generation. ... For the main cast anyway.

Why is it embarrassing to share a name with a Vanguard card? I would say that's pretty awesome since you can mold yourself into that image all the more easily. I'd say it's something to be proud of with Chrono Jet being his current avatar card.

Then there's top tier waifu Misaki Tokura. She came in only for a minute and saved this episode. It's good to see her original nature of bossy return (literally because she's a boss). I'm rather irritated she wasn't the one who spearheaded the Oracle Think Tank debut though. There's also Shion getting more than one word for a line and his seiyuu sounds great. ... Not much else to say since Shion himself was the most random thing of this episode next to Tokoha and her friend. Though, I wonder if Tokoha's friend will play Bermuda for a role reversal from Emi-Mai?

Next episode is Ibuki's insanely fast and early debut. If he's playing Deletors, he's about 7-8 months early to advertise the new Link Joker deck. If he's playing pure Cray Elementals... well then how exactly? Despite this confusion I'm entirely certain he'll probably not even fight like Kamui didn't in his own episode. I'll just be happy to see him I guess. Also it's pretty interesting to see Vanguard turned the world into a COLOSSAL MMO.

Bleh. Hope for G is still diminishing. Just faster than before.

Lol that episode also had no serious fights, i seriously hope this doesn't become bakugan. But storywise it wasn't really bad, but kinda silly. Although i like how the Vanguard universe is right now, with nations and stuff being important also a vanguard community and all. That Fica thing with the quests is very interesting, i even think it would be a good idea to the forum to have some quests.Since there's over a 100 sleeves and the pool can't have that many. Could go something like >Play X Clan 10 times win X unit sleeve and so on.
