Why not have the number of grades reflect the number of grades in the game? 0-4? Just keep the same stuff, unlocking a clan per gain though at grade 4 you can unlock all clans? You don't want people to get bored or get frustrated, so I'd say just decrease it down to grades 0-4, not only to reflect the game but to also shorten the process of leveling because, again, you don't want people to get bored or frustrated as to why they're not progressing as quickly. Of course that means the points it takes to level from 0-4 would increase a bit (or a lot) more than they are now.
Alright, if set restrictions aren't going to work then how about clan restrictions?I'm more for the incentives than the restrictions, really.Grade 0: Only main clan is usable.Grade 1: Extra clan unlockedGrade 2: Extra clan unlockedGrade 3: Extra clan unlockedGrade 4: Extra clan unlockedGrade 5: Extra clan unlockedGrade 6: Extra clan unlockedGrade 7 (Platinum): All clans unlocked

As people have commented, it's better to keep the experience between levels at a reasonable amount and thus have more levels, than encouraging a grind like feel. There is a reason people dread the late game in an MMO and that's mostly because they spend a lot of time grinding for one single level. It takes the fun out of it when all they think is "How much exp till next level?" And having more levels does give a better distribution for 'unlocks'. Feels like you're actually working for it. I, by no means am an expert in Cardfight Vanguard and barely used CFA, but I approve that it could help newer players/users along the way. What I most love about this system is the fact that Grade 0 starts with only a single clan, presumably your main clan that represents you best, and I think it's a good thing to guide the player into first mastering or experimenting with just one clan. Depending on how long it takes for Grades to be acquired, maybe in the future we could add more. Oh, I'm also guessing that we could take the anime's take on penalties as well. Cheating would result in a suspension from tournaments for a period of time and being stripped of your grades, etc I'm not sure if it was discussed or I simply forgot as I read along the way this morning (now at work during lunch break), but I'm guessing each grade will be able to use any mechanic? I mean, if you're Grade 0 I'm taking you can still use Stride or Legion, restriction being just in the clan usage.
