Cero met his opponent, a Shin'en, who's first words when they entered the arena were "GLHF." Cero was quite confused by this, and lacking a response, began the cardfight. In their first match, Cero decimated his opponent with his massive number of trigger checks, to the point where his opponent became so demotivated he left the arena.... Cero moves on to the second round, dumbfounded by what just happened.

Hana breathed deeply. She also drank some coffee. The coffee wasn't very good.
She had been practicing with Miyuki all night prior to this. She clutched her deck in her right hand. A lot of pressure weighed down on her shoulders as she felt the adrenaline rush as she approached her first match. She may also feel heavy because her has the mass of 15 billion suns but that is besides the point.
She approached the center of the stage, her favorite place to be, and placed her cards upon the fight table.
"Hana Isabella Espoir." She introduced herself to the one standing across from her.
"Hazama Von Einsburn," he replied. drawing his starting hand.
"Running man?"
"Yes, it is I, savior of Dr. Hentai."
With that, the fight began.
"I got a critical on Aqua and she'll finish this show off by attacking your Vanguardo!!" Hana signaled the attack and the damage had gone through.
"Heal Trigger," Hazama had checked it as his sixth damage, he healed.
"Tyrrhenia skill to return Comical Rainie to my hand!"
And on the the next turn...
"Stil Vampir's Megablast! Ride your Tyrrhenia!"
Hana was able to fend off a turn of assaults, staying at 5 damage. Unfortunately on her next turn, she didn't have enough to make a full stage and was unable to deal another sixth damage to Hazama. Hazama had won.
During the next match, Hana was well enough prepared for his megablast skill, riding Pacifica and intiating combos with Carine to build up her hand. When the time came she guarded it with ease and finished the game. On the next game, it was a similar situation. Hana had misgraded at two but she ironed over the situation and rode her Pacifica.
"Stand up, terror of the underworld, the demon of hell! I ride my bunshin, Satan!" She called out as she rode Pacifica.
She kept herself at three damage, and even though the megablast, she had a perfect guard ready to give Hazama no chance to make no return.
Hana Isabella Espoir wins the first round of the Vanguard National Tournament

Jellal Kisaragi vs Shiki Akama
It was Shiki's first time in a large tournament like that, and he didn't even know much about the card game or enjoy it, his luck alone is what made him arrive in the Nationals but he honestly didn't care nor feel any stress, he just wanted to get to the top and be popular. Afterall, girls dig popular people so it was his chance to have his very own harem!
His opponent was Jellal Kisaragi, someone he didn't really know and it was to be expected, he only really played only against the white-haired stalker.
He was using a deck similar to that of the Stalker, but Shiki didn't really pay any attention to it, afterall its often that there is atleast one edgy counterpart to somethin in both anime and manga, so why not card games?
The first game went to Shiki, which he grabbed with immense trigger luck and rushing, plus a few new additions to his deck like Dancing Cutlass allowed him to have some more card draw, his opponent managed to achieve the full ride chain for Phantom Blaster Dragon, allowin him to ride his Avatar - Blaster Dark, but in the end he couldn't win this game.
The other two games however, were both in Jellal's favor, it was revenge for their first game, in both cases Shiki managed to have a nice field in the early to mid game, but the moment they reached grade 3, and the late game Jellal started to take full control of the game, Shiki's hand started droppin like crazy in attempts to guard his opponent's onslaught of edgy paladins, being forced to one pass Phantom Blaster Dragon's final Shadow Erosion, which on top of his act skill, Damned Charging Lance made the number too big for Shiki to guard with what little hand he had, which finished both game two and game three in Jellal's favor making him advance in the Nationals. Strangely, even through he didn't have much affection to the game and even throuh he lost, Shiki seemed to enjoy the match.
Result:
Jellal Kisaragi advances.

Itou vs Hayato
Itou walks into the National stage for the first time ever, it seemed a honor to be here, but he could not be overwhelmed by the moment, he had to win for the victory, his first opponent was named Tsubasa Hayato, a Royal Paladin user just like him,
The first game starts the same for both players, nearly the same rides and aces, but Hayato built his formation faster while Itou had triggers on his side. Itou chose Royal Paladins since it was the clan that fit his imagination the most, but he wonders why Hayato did it. No time for questions, he had a game to play and his opponent managed to use the Soul Saver Dragon Strike which nearly took out Itou's entire hand. When that failed he just needed to fill his field and attack for the win in the game 1 (1-0)
Game 2 goes on as both fighters analyze the previous game and try to foresee the outcome of their plays, this time the triggers went on Hayato's side, from double criticals to double heals and draw damage checks. Even if Itou built his field faster Hayato possessed the bigger hand, and abusing his trigger rush he corner Itou to win the second game (1-1)
The final game... pressure to both sides as they knew the skills and luck would determine the outcome of this round. Itou gets the upperhead with trigger luck and rushes Hayato using half his hand to fill the field. Hayato attacked the vanguard recklessly which could be a sign of anxiousness. Itou does his best to keep most of his calm and takes advantage to the damages he took to use his Counterblasts. As last effort Hayato pulls again a Soul Saver Strike but Itou just like in game 1 was prepared for it... the last turn came...Itou seemed relieved after seeing his field and his opponent's, relieved as he was he took the chance to ask Hayato about choosing the Royal Paladin clan, he said that he was seeking something in his victory and that Vanguard was his chance to make things right. Itou sees his words as a very noble reason yet when he said that Hayato smiled sarcastically. After that minute of conversation Itou releases his last attacks to qualify to the semi-finals. (2-1)
Hayato thanks Itou for the game and both fighters handshake, whishing him luck in the tournament
Hayato +2 AP

Both fighters placed their decks onto their respective zones. The Vanguard National semi-finals started off with a stadium of silence, save the heartbeat of both fighters, which pounding with such intensity that it would have been no surprise if the audience had heard them.
"Ohayou minna thank you for coming out today!" Hana waved at the crowd, breaking the silence. A cheer roar across the audience.
And so the fight began.
The first battle raged on for a good amount of time, with Soul Saver Dragon fighting against Pacifica and both fights neck and neck, neither wavering.Eventually it came down to Hana's last four cards in the deck. She rode Lena in order to keep from Pacifca's skill from activating. And through having used Pacifica's skill throughout the game, she was able to put a critical trigger onto the bottom which sealed the deal.
The second game started quickly with Itou having to ride Palamedes instead of Soul Saver Dragon. He eventually recovered, riding into Alfred and using Pongal's skill to ride Soul Saver Dragon. He was able to push Hana to a good amount of damage and reduce her hand enough to create an effective finishing turn with Soul Saver Dragon's Skill.
The final with both fighters each having scored a win, Hana's idol persona has not wavered despite the results of the last game. She makes comeback riding Pacifica. In a game that was heal for heal. she scores critical triggers with eventually wins her the game.
Hana Isabella Espoir goes to the finals.

Jellal walked into the stage. He blocked out the crowd and concentrated everything on this moment. He saw the tall male waiting on the opposite side for him. Jellal was shaking and trembling with excitement: aiming for the top is what he sets his sights to. He armed himself with the Shadow Paladin deck and stepped forward sitting the deck down on the table, mirrored by his opponent. No greetings were exchanged...yet. The first match started, and quite boldly: the man facing Jellal declared himself as the "King of Vanguard", known as Cero Kirguis. Of course, Jellal had heard something like this before from Yukin- sorry, Hikari, being called The Chosen One.
"These people and their self-important titles..." Jellal thought, annoyed, but didn't care too much because he knew to get to the top, he had to beat the "King".
Game 1, Jellal saw Royal Paladins but a few interesting units he took note of. Snogal, Bleugal, and 2 forms of Garmore. Jellal completed the ride chain, however when he saw Cero ride Soul Saver Dragon and not use his skill, he started to question his opponents ability as a cardfighter. "Why on earth would he ride
that
now of all times?" he thought. The same unit that was held dear to Kaze Ryuenji, opposite to Phantom Blaster Dragon: Soul Saver. The match played out but ended in Cero's favor. Disappointed by his loss, Jellal felt the urge to continue, which was noted by Cero.
Game 2, Tragedy struck. No Javelin for Jellal... or rather.. No Grade 1 at all for Jellal. He was stuck on Fullbau for a full turn but he needed massive hand advantage with an early draw trigger. Jellal was offered to get a grade 1 from the deck, and he chose Javelin but didn't use his skill to search out his avatar. Everything was going good, however, Cero had questioned whether or not Jellal knew of Hikari. Cero then said he deemed Hikari as his rival, and seeing Jellal in place of her meant that he had became better than her, although, Cero began to underestimate Jellal by saying he was having a hard time believing that Jellal defeated Hikari. It ticked Jellal off, being underestimated was just unacceptable by anyone's standards. Then the moment arrived, Blaster Dark stormed into battle, and used the skill rarely seen from Jellal, to retire a Snogal and savagely retaliated, getting a critical and evening up the playing field. Jellal viciously rode the cursed dragon: Phantom Blaster and double critted Cero to five damage. Claiming that
his
knights were upset for being looked down on, Jellal had complete advantage this fight, slowly winning him the game with a final Shadow Erosion. Perhaps this was the first time, he ever felt a positive attachment to the Shadow Paladins he knew weren't his. Either way, there was one more match to be held, he had to win, no matter what.
Game 3, Both fighters started off as per usual, Jellal missing the chain. Cero dealt the first damage to Jellal despite having other able-body attackers to dish out more. Much to his surprise, Jellal deduced that he probably didn't want his rear guard getting killed by Blaster Dark again, which... Jellal didn't have at the time, instead riding Rugos. On grade 3 turn, Jellal switch to a more attrition tactic by riding Dark Metal Dragon and having Gururubau boosting, in addition to his skill, making the twin drive alone to break a 10k shield drop, without triggers. He continued pressuring as Cero gathered more of his allies, especially more Snogals. They were pretty even, throughout most of the fight, however Jellal had a ridiculous hand size, that is until Cero rode Soul Saver Dragon, successfully. Jellal's hand dropped from a good 6 cards of 2 perfect guards, 3 critical triggers, and Rugos to zilch, nada, nothing despite him surviving. Jellal knew he needed two triggers to survive either that or he'd had to have topped another Phantom Blaster Dragon to push for game, which he ran out of. He called the final card, Charon behind his rear guard and attacked, all of them being stopped. Cero quickly finished Jellal off winning the semi-final match. Jellal was shocked and in disbelief that he lost, but thankfully Cero apologized for underestimating him. Hopefully, Jellal would get to face him again to return the favor.
+1 Affininity Cero

Hana Isabel Espoir vs. Cero Kirguis: National Finals
Both fighters knew each other before this.
Hana had run into Cero a month at the train station during his first visit in Japan where she thought that he was an ill man in need of the hospital. Cero was her first fight during this visit, now she was the one standing in the way of him reaching the top of the Vanguard world.
Hana greeted the crowd and did her usual thing, mahou shoujou transformation, idol mode activate.
The fight reeled off with a strong start for Cero, effortlessly calling out a full field of dogs. Hana was able to guard. Well into the game, Cero rides his ace, Fang of Light, Garmore. On Garmore's attack Cero was able to check a double critical, putting Hana to five damage and in a position where she was forced to guard one more high powered attack. On her turn, she drew Pacifica and rode her avatar. With Pacifica's attack, Cero guard for a two pass. Hana was able to check those triggers, critical trigger and draw trigger, giving all the effects to Pacifica.
For the second game Cero had a much slower start, while Hana was able to pull off combos using her Rock Girls Rio, Wendell, and Tyrhennia's skills. Hana was eventually able to wear Cero down while slowly gaining advantage which let her guard against his attacks. Her victory was sealed when she had checked a heal trigger and critical trigger.
Cero proclaimed that this wasn't the end of his path to glory, that as the King, he will keep on fighting and keep on moving.
Hana proclaimed that the paramedics were on their way to pick him up.
Cero started yelling a lot and the audience became afraid.
The fight ended with fighters shaking hands, and a crowd applauding in respect.
Thus the Vanguard National Tournament had ended.
Hana Isabella Espoir has become the Vanguard National Champion
Bermuda Triangle and Hana have become the chosen Vanguards to lead Cray, earning Hana the title, "Princess of Cray."
Cero as the runner-up plans to return to Europe for some time to spend time with his people as well as tell them stories of his experiences while in Japan. He has made the many nations proud and they furthur acknowledge him as their "King of Vanguard."
