Hey, I was playing against somebody who was using megacolony in standard format where they were attacking with burner ant and kept restanding it by discarding a card. I'm pretty sure they were wrong, but I just want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

Your opponent was indeed in the wrong in this case. Burner Ant's ability is an ACT ability. This means that the ability can be used as many times as you'd like during the MAIN PHASE (unless stated otherwise). In the case where he was attacking with it, like you described, it would be unable to restand with it's ability due to it being ACT.
