Title: Cannot Run Area!!!
Post by: KettouRyuujin on June 06, 2015, 04:57:11 PM
I've recently downloaded the latest version of CFA in hopes of it working. To no real surprise, I when I tried to run it I would up with the same error I always got in the past.

The loading screen will appear and fill most of the way, and then an error message will pop up saying "Failed to initialize drawing surfaces. Please check that your graphics card meets the minimum requirements and that your drivers are up-to-date. If your graphics card has little memory, try switching your computer to a lower resolution."

The thing is, my drivers are up-to-date and I have an integrated Intel graphics card so I can't just get a new one. Switching to a lower resolution worked in the past, and I can't allocate more memory to the graphics card (at least, in any way I know). A full re-download has never worked in the past, so I doubt it will work now.

I've seen the solution involving regedit in other topics, but I don't appear to have the "softwareOnly"key that they say I should change. Furthermore the option to disable hardware acceleration appears to be missing on my machine.

Now, I did unpack the file into my "Downloads" folder, and I've seen this be an issue with some other programs. I'm not sure where I should have it unpacked to if not the "downloads" folder though.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could provide me with assistance here so I can actually use CFA, and not simply ignore this post.

Thank you very much.

Redownloading don't help.
Look for a solution in Google. The problem of compatibility with GM games.

So I search "Compatability with GameMaker games", I assume?

EDIT: Ok. Checked system requirements for GameMaker as well as the compatibility angle, and it calls for, and I quote, "128MB graphics". My total available graphics memory is 1696 MB, but the dedicated video memory is a mere 64 MB. Do you think this low dedicated memory is the issue?
If it helps, I have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 card and am using Windows 7.

Also, wondering if having GameMaker: Player will help my situation any.

considering this problem happens allot i think it might be best to make a sticky page for it with explination on how to resolve it.

Yeah. I've seen it a lot before, but have never seen solutions that worked for me - the threads just died before then.

The solution here is the RegEdit one I mentioned in my first post. As stated there, the "SoftwareOnly" key they mention does not exist on my machine.

Yeah. I might check, but given that they were up-to-date LAST time this error happened, I doubt it's the right fix.
