I don't know if the community of such a fun game is still health, i hope it is, but i'm sad that i took that hiatus in 2012..

Yes joining a team is a good start! Majority of the community now is sectioned off in multiple discord chats/Skype chat groups, if you join a team it will be easier for you to piece together and find where everyone be's at.
