Title: "Update progress" posts
Post by: Demjugz on November 09, 2014, 02:57:52 PM
So I was wondering if it's possible to create a topic about how much is left/what's new for the next update, something like this:

"-Day X-

-Gear Chronice and Kagero units are now in
-Most of the new Stride mechanic is ready

Update progress: around 60%

Expected launch date: Day Y"

I think it would stop people from asking "So when's the next update?", which is quite annoying, and it could generate more hype =P

Any thoughts?

(P.S.: Using Trello would also work)

I actually agree on giving us this. I know the questions irritate the coders but the masses would actually shut up some if we had more progress reports or something. Expected Launch Dates might make people mad if they're missed, but it isn't a problem seeing as we'd all be lucky enough to have progress reports in the first place.

It's a good idea indeed.

while it isnt a bad idea, if i was the programmer i would still get pretty upset at someone asking for the progress since it would stress me out.

It's more of asking "Can you give us progress reports occasionally?" instead of "HEY WHATS THE CURRENT PROGRESS TELL US" like in the Buddyfight thread.

Well, progress reports are actually a very big part of programming, so if you're a professional programmer you literally /have/ to give them. Whether they annoy you or not. And if you get easily stressed programming, you probably shouldn't be a programmer.

I agree that a progress report would be lovely, but since this is not a professional project, I don't know if they'll bother doing it.

all in all i think its best if we dont get any since people then to imagine details out of nowhere.
thinking 90% means it will be out today. a progress update would be good but people tend to take the simplest things way out of hand.
Title: Re: "Update progress" posts
Post by: AloisTrancy on November 09, 2014, 03:36:00 PM
If anyone thinks 90% means "Will be done today", they're dumb.

There's still 10% left to go, that's a whole tenth of the update not finished.

People take it way out of hand whether we have one or not, at least this way they get a good idea of how far along the update is.
Title: Re: "Update progress" posts
Post by: Demjugz on November 09, 2014, 03:53:55 PM
Well, that depends if that 10% is actually a big deal or not =P (but I see your point, since it's a big deal most of the time).

What Cherry said, I don't think giving us progress reports occasionally would hurt. Well, it's all up to the programmers.
Title: Re: "Update progress" posts
Post by: AloisTrancy on November 09, 2014, 04:08:57 PM
10% is almost always big, otherwise there would no point in telling us they're at 90%, since they could just finish the 10 and present the update.

i gotta agree with cherry and dem on knowing whats coming in the update.

forexemple a list of cards coming, some people can take a look and say hey we have a missing card.

or they say they will add a new system soon and ask for pre release reedback.

I think is a good idea, especially when the update takes the time 1.68 is taking and there would be less people asking about it.

Nyash is the boss so he doesn't have a boss to report to. However, if someone decides to open up a client, then we will have a new Dn vs KCVDS situation.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not for CFA 16.8

but instead of inputting all the Stride Stuff(G zone,Discard pile and many mechanics of stride,New GC section, Cray elemental/Stride cards section)

they can do a mini update on some of the revealed cards of GBT01 and the Promos which doesn't revolve around the GB or Stride example Amon Revival and DOTX and some of the perdition commons/rares/(Even RRR/RR not sure cos most of them require stride mechs), LB4 enabler for NG and OTT, new unflippers and the new triggers for all the GBT01 Clans except GC(Even thou some have like the GB cost its ok since well its easier to update since they are just triggers).

this way in a sense, some cards will be updated and then when they are done with the programming/coding for Stride Stuffs dun have to input so much stuff at 1 goal so at least we get some card updates now to kinda reduce the tension.

Of course I clearly understand the fact that ppl would rather want the next update to contain Stride Mechanics but face it we aren't getting it soon and since programming cards is easier to do the least they could do is add in those cards that doesn require Stride mech like mentioned above

Help support this small update to get to use DOTX and Amon revival and of course cant wait to get my LB enablers lols (Kinda being baised here but i think its a gd idea)

i am pretty sure they are done with about 80~90% with the update so why make a small one before that?
Title: Re: "Update progress" posts
Post by: Cherry on November 19, 2014, 10:38:42 AM
That seems pretty pointless since it's likely the majority of the new cards are already in. The only thing left is coding Stride itself I would think.

Though honestly, I'd be fine with an update that gives us the cards themselves, while we just proxy ways to use them. As long as we'd actually get the new stuff.

Well, I guess you all need an official answer, so here it is. There is 2 type of updates you'll run into:
1) Adding new mechanics.
2) Adding new cards.

So first type is what is happening now - the coder is fully involved, and doing his job. Those updates usualy takes long time, especially if new mechanics forces Nyash to rewrite core pieces of his code. So he may be doing good until one moment and then something can change - a new card is announced, or some details of the mechanics are revealed, so he need to make an adjustments to his code or, in the worst case, rewrite the code again. This process cant be tracked clearly as you want it to, because Nyash is not sure himself, if all will go as planned. So for long update there surely will not be and update posts.

The second type is simplier - Shocky adds the cards into the client, Nyash is testing them for any mistakes or bugs, and then Rem is uploading it. Most of the time this process is not taking too long to make an update posts, so there will not be the update posts in this case too.

And there is not anything cool in giving the date of an update, you haven't finished yet, and then not be able to give it to people in time. SO be patient, please. I personaly in the same situation as you are - I cant help with an update and just patiently w8ing for it. The best thing we can do - not disturb gamemaker, so he'll be able to concentrate on the code.

yea I understand. I just thought that since the coding is hard and you guys have lifes and all it will still take a longer time so yea but now with a much better answer on the progress that the coding for stride is about 70 or above done and is in progress that good to heard i was just thinking maybe it was like still 40 or 50% so in that case a mini update would be okay in my views but yea if its gonna be done up soon I can wait a little longer

good luck guys ^^

lol The lack of patience for this update is rediculous xD

My advice: Give the admins, etc a break and let them do what they have to do.

There's been updates that took just as long to happen if not longer before, so why make a big deal out of it now? xD

This thread is asking about progress for updates in general though, not just this one. Even though this Stride one seems to be the present case of aggravation for everyone - players and devs included.

Expy has a point on the part of possibly having to redo the entire code. Seeing 80% update reports could get people hyped and then announcing there was a snag could cause a lot of uncalled for yelling. Though, I'd personally like to know that after 2-3+ months, there was some progress. Even if there was some rewriting needed.

I get that part but I don't think people annoying the admins is gonna make it happen any faster. I mean I understand requesting something like some of the ideas mentioned above which is good. But about updates themselves about when it's gonna happen I'm pretty sure the admins are doing what they can to make it happen , so people need to be a little bit more patient with them xD

In future updates will there be multiple arts of the same card like for Alluring Succubus and Harmonics Messiah?

Cherry, From what I heard from Shocky, Nyash complited making the G-zone and G-units in Deck Editor. Now he is working on something related with it, and I cant translate it on english :C Just think about it, like Nyash is working with mechanics - I guess he wanna to make it a little more automatic.

Divine Chaos Kurai ΔΣ, no, there will no be multiple arts for those card. And it's wrong topic to ask.

See, this is all I wanted beyond the update itself. Just to know some progress was made.

Thank you a lot, Expy. Kudos to Nyash for getting that far with it too.

guys, any idea how's update progress? since we already have gtd01, gtd02 and gbt01. it's kinda frustating each time when im open the page and still the same. I love cf area thats y i asked, they have the best online platform for me now.

I think the update goes well but have the pressure that is being updated very fast everything, then they finish up a set of cards and then have to go to change the image , and so on , it is best to wait until all is complete and with good quality, after that just waiting and ready, we will update. It 's just a matter of being patient . keep going guys, you are doing great.  ;D ;D

LUUUUUCAAAAAAAAAAA

Also I would definitely suggest being more patient with the programmer, since scripting can be a HUGE pain in the arse to do. Especially when scripts start messing with each other.
